The New Orleans Saints will be gunning for a 10th straight victory when they host the Atlanta Falcons in a rare Thanksgiving Day appearance as 13.5-point favorites on the NFL Week 12 betting odds.
New Orleans continued to roll last weekend, both on the gridiron and at the sportsbooks, with a lopsided 48-7 win over the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles as 7-point home chalk, boosting the team's straight-up record to 9-1 ahead of Thursday night's game at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
The Saints have also emerged as a reliable wager during their nine-game SU win streak, posting against the spread wins in each of their past eight outings, but have failed to cover in three straight as double-digit chalk.
Thursday's contest marks just the second time the Saints have hit the field on Thanksgiving Day, with the team posting a narrow 30-27 win in Dallas in their lone appearance in 2010. Turkey Day clashes have also been a rarity for the Falcons, who make just their third-ever Thanksgiving Day appearance, and their first since 2007.
However, the Falcons have little reason to celebrate after stumbling to a 4-6 SU start including outright losses to Cleveland and Dallas in their past two outings. Atlanta has averaged just 17.5 points per game during its 0-2 SU slide, and will need to overcome a two-game SU and ATS skid against New Orleans if it is to keep its dim playoff hopes alive.
Cowboys are Chalk on NFL Thanksgiving Odds
Divisional rivalries dominate elsewhere on the NFL Thanksgiving Betting Odds, as the Dallas Cowboys host the NFC East-leading Washington Redskins as 7.5-point chalk on the NFL Week 12 odds while the Detroit Lions take on the visiting Chicago Bears.
The Lions continue their lengthy holiday tradition with an NFL-record 79th appearance on Thanksgiving Day. But like the Falcons, it has been yet another tough season in Detroit, where the Lions look bound to miss the playoffs for the 16th time in 19 years after opening on a 4-6 SU run.
Detroit has enjoyed somewhat more success in Thanksgiving Day matchups, going 4-1 SU in its past five. The Lions have also posted four straight wins in Thanksgiving dates with Chicago, which currently rides a four-game SU win streak.
But with the status of quarterback Mitch Trubisky for Thursday's game still uncertain after he missed practice this week with a shoulder injury, the Bears may have to rely on a stingy defense that has held opponents to just 15.5 points per game over their past four outings.
The Redskins also face questions under center after losing quarterback Alex Smith to a gruesome leg injury in last weekend's 23-21 loss to Houston as 3-point home underdogs. Smith brought stability to the offense in his Redskins debut, while leading the team to the top of the divisional standings with a 6-5 record.
It has been a fifth-ranked defense that has surrendered just 19.8 points per game that has made the difference in Washington. The team has held opponents to 19 total points in three road wins this season, fueling a low point total of 41.0 on the NFL Thursday Thanksgiving odds. However, the Redskins are a meagre 1-6 SU in their past seven Thanksgiving visits to Dallas, with the total reaching 44 or higher in five of those contests.
