The Milwaukee Bucks will be looking to pad their league-leading record with a seventh straight win when they continue a five-game western road trip on Friday against the Los Angeles Lakers as 4.5-point favorites on the NBA odds.
Milwaukee continued its recent
road dominance with a narrow 141-140 win in Sacramento on Wednesday, and is now
unbeaten straight up in nine away contests going into Friday night's game at
the Staples Center.
The Bucks have also extended their lead atop the Eastern Conference standings, where they now sit 2.5 games ahead of the second-place Toronto Raptors. But Milwaukee holds only a slender edge over Toronto on the odds to win the Eastern Conference, where they are pegged as +170 favorites on those NBA lines, while the Raptors closely trail as a +180 wager.
With little recent playoff
success to their credit, the Bucks also lag on the NBA championship odds.
Milwaukee has failed to win a playoff series in eight trips to the postseason
since 2001, and trails both the Raptors and the heavily favored Golden State
Warriors with +900 odds to claim the city's first NBA title since 1974.
Despite owning an NBA-best 47-14 SU record, the Bucks have also emerged as a shaky wager on the NBA betting odds. Milwaukee has covered in just three of its last seven contests, ending a 6-0 against the spread run, but has regularly rewarded bettors during its current 9-0 SU tear on the road, covering on eight occasions.
The Bucks have powered their
torrid road pace with stingy defense, surrendering fewer than 100 points in
five of their past nine away contests, and have also claimed victory by
double-digit margins in seven of those outings.
Lakers Looking to Resurrect
their Playoff Hopes
That is bad news for a Lakers squad looking to resurrect its fading playoff hopes by posting consecutive wins for the first time since January 17. The Lakers are coming off a 125-119 win over the visiting New Orleans Pelicans as 6.5-point favorites on the NBA odds, and have recorded SU wins in three of four home dates.
However, there has been little
else for fans of the team to cheer about. Los Angeles has stumbled to a 5-10 SU
record in the 15 games since the team last posted consecutive victories, and
looks toward Friday's contest mired in 10th place in the Western Conference
standings, three games back of both the San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles
Clippers in the race for the final playoff spot in the West.
But despite falling so far out of the playoff picture, the Lakers have maintained surprising resiliency on the NBA playoff odds. In addition to trailing only the Warriors and the Houston Rockets as a +900 bet to claim the Western Conference title, the Lakers have also held steady on the NBA championship odds at a surprisingly strong +1100. If the Lakers' recent performance on the NBA odds is any indication, the clock is ticking on their lofty position on the NBA futures. Los Angeles has covered just once in its past six games, and is a dismal 5-10-1 ATS in its past 16 home dates.
